As fish have similar stress responses and sense of nociception to mammals, best practice methods and standards of fish welfare are rapidly emerging in the field of aquaculture. New fish welfare measures can dramatically improve farming outcomes, but a sustainable balance between implementation costs and their benefits must first be reached. The Fish Welfare in Aquaculture Collection invites articles which present an overview of such developments, discussing the importance of fish welfare within the research environment.
The welfare of fish is a product of several mutually contributing factors. Potential topics welcome for submission therefore include, but are not limited to:
- Developments in fish biology and control of the reproduction
- Strain breeding
- Sex determination & differentiation
- Aquaculture management and environment interactions
- Genetic selection & growth improvement
- Malformations & survival
- Gene expression & omic technologies
- Fish diseases
- Feeding & nutrition
The Collection will also consider studies with negative or inconclusive results. All manuscripts are subject to peer review for quality and suitability of publication in SpringerPlus.
As Editor-in-Chief of this Collection, I would like to invite you to choose SpringerPlus for the home of your research.
