A.K.M. Saiful Islam is a Professor at the Institute of Water and Flood Management at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He has received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (1989) from BUET, a Master of Science in Water Resources Engineering (1999) from BUET, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (2004) from Drexel University, USA. His research interests aim at climate change, hydrology, integrated water resources management, urban and coastal flood management, and remote sensing applications. He has published over 67 peer-reviewed journal articles, more than 100 conference papers, and contributed to 9 book chapters. He contributed to the IPCC’s Six Assessment Report as a Lead Author.

Achlesh Daverey: PhD, Doon University,  India
Achlesh Daverey is an Associate Professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources at Doon University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. Dr. Daverey’s research interests include biological wastewater treatment, nitrogen removal via the anammox process, phytoremediation of contaminated soil and water, and biochar production and application. He is serving as an Associate Editor for International Biodeterioration & Biodegradation (Elsevier), Water Practice & Technology (IWA) and Applied Water Science (Springer) journals. He is also serving as an Editorial Board Member for various journals. He is the Editor of two Elsevier books. Daverey has published more than 70 research papers in SCI/SCOPUS indexed journals and contributed 15 chapters to edited books in the field of Environmental Science.

Khaled Benis: PhD, Dalhousie University, Canada

Khaled Benis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Process Engineering and Applied Science at Dalhousie University. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 2023. His research centers on the exploration of diverse biomass and waste materials within the framework of the circular economy. Currently, his focus is on converting waste materials into value-added products for the removal of emerging contaminants from water, employing techniques such as adsorption, electrosorption, and advanced oxidation processes.

About the collection

Environmental Systems Research is calling for submissions to our collection on Global Changing Environment and Human Well-being Impact, Policy, and Scientific Challenges.

This collection aims to explore the intricate relationships between environmental changes and human health. It seeks to compile interdisciplinary research that assesses the impacts of climate change, pollution, and resource depletion on human well-being. By addressing scientific, policy, and practical challenges, the collection aspires to inform comprehensive strategies and policies that enhance resilience, promote sustainability, and improve health outcomes in the face of a rapidly changing global environment.

This collection covers a wide array of topics related to the impact of global environmental changes on human well-being. It invites research on climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, and resource management, focusing on their direct and indirect effects on health. The scope includes policy analysis, risk assessment, adaptation and mitigation strategies, and socio-economic implications. Contributions that integrate scientific, policy, and community perspectives to develop holistic approaches for addressing environmental and health challenges are particularly welcome.
