About the Collection

The Tibetan Plateau, located in the Mediterranean-Himalayan geothermal belt, has experienced intense Cenozoic tectonic activity with a significant amount of high-temperature superificial geothermal sources in China. There are over 600 hot springs in the plateau and its surrounding areas with a potential 3.03 GW power generation. Therefore, the formation mechanism, exploration, development, and utilization of the geothermal resources in the plateau are receiving increasing interests from academics and exploration companies, resulting in a better understanding of the geothermal resources in the region. Furthermore, the study of geothermal system provides a vehicle for discussing the Cenozoic evolution of the plateau and its continental dynamic significance. The special issue will provide a communication platform for experts and scholars from research institutions and universities around the world studying geothermal resources in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas.

This Collection aims to receive submissions, including but not limited to the following subjects:

  • The genetic model of geothermal resources in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas
  • Exploration of geothermal resources in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas
  • Current development and utilization of geothermal resources in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas
  • The coupling relationship between geothermal resources and active structures in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas
  • Other innovative research on the geothermal resources in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas
